In the waters with...Cari MacLean

Cari MacLean, body blitz client and wife of Ron MacLean (host of Hockey Night in Canada on CBC), has been married for 27 years. We sat down with Cari and asked her about the keys to a great relationship.

1. When did you and Ron first meet?
Highschool, 1978

2. How long have you been together?
Close to 34 years. We will celebrate our 28th Wedding Anniversary in September.

3. What do you think is the secret to a great relationship?
Not losing your individuality. Staying true to you. 1+ 1 = 2, rather than 2 becomes 1.

4. What is the nicest thing you have done for each other?
It’s not so much the big gestures as it is the daily small nice gestures, like getting each other a coffee, writing and leaving notes, buying flowers, making dinner, brushing off the snow on both cars etc. Just being aware of each other’s presence and extending small courtesies along the way.

5. What is the nicest thing you have done for others?
We are both very generous with our time when it comes to local, national and international charitable causes.

6. Tell us about your first experience with body blitz?
I was lucky enough to attend the official opening. Since then have enjoyed many visits, both solo and with friends.

7. What is your favourite part of the water circuit and why?
Hard to believe but it would have to be the cold water plunge pool because I find the swearing I do when entering it to be very cathartic.

8. What is your favourite body blitz product?
Love the mint ~ lime body wash.

9. What is your secret to staying fit?
I run and play hockey…both done with other people. The group component means my activities are just as much about being social as they are about being physically active.

10. Favourite food? Drink?
I would never say no to pizza or champagne, but would never consume them together!

11. Top 3 pieces of advice you would give to other women?
1. Love yourself and treat yourself accordingly 2. Build and nurture a strong foundation of friends, both male and female, young and old, couples and singles. 3. Step outside of that box every now and then and do something that challenges you emotionally, spiritually, socially or physically.

12. What books on your nightstand?
I just finished The Hunger Games trilogy (Suzanne Collins), currently reading The Sisters Brothers (Patrick DeWitt), and of course have a well read copy of Cornered (Ron MacLean and Kirstie McLellan Day ) on the stand.

13. What’s your favourite indulgence?
Road trips.

14. Proudest accomplishment?
Just ran the New York City marathon. A bucket list item for any one who runs.
