In the waters with...Marjie Thomson

In anticipation of the opening of body blitz east, we sat down with our Interior Designer Marjie Thomson and asked her a few questions. She is part of the team responsible for the design and look of our King St. East spa opening in September.

1. What is your career?  What do you love most about it?
I am a residential and commercial Interior Designer.  After doing work at one of the body blitz team’s home, I was called in to help with the new spa.  I love all aspects of the design process, from conceptualization to the satisfaction of seeing my clients happy with the end result.

2. If you could clear up one misconception about your profession, what would it be?
I think a lot of people think my job is a glamourous one, when in fact I spend most of my time running around the city like a maniac visiting construction sites!

3. How do you stay sane?
I have an incredible husband who keeps me sane and lets me be me!

4. What is your best design tip?

Comfort is key!  We all work hard, so our office and our home should be a great source of comfort to help inspire us.

5. What’s your favourite indulgence?
Two words:  Grey Goose!

6. Proudest accomplishment?

I’m proud of all of my design projects but my proudest accomplishment by far is my relationship with my husband and my family.

7. Three adjectives to describe yourself?

Hard working, unselfish, persistent.

8. Top 3 pieces of advice you would give to other women?

SIMPLIFY your life. If you haven’t worn or used something in 2 years, you likely won’t wear it or use it again.

So donate it!  RESPECT each other…don’t get too comfortable with the people in your life so that you begin to disrespect them.  LAUGH…a lot!

9. What do you like most about construction?

I love interacting with professional trades people who have a passion for their work and who are just as interested in the end result as I am.

10. What do you like least about construction?
Unprofessional trades people who need babysitting!

11. Can you tell us a little bit about the design at body blitz east?
Body blitz east is an exciting design collaboration. It is housed in an industrial building in the heart of the city and we are incorporating all of the finishes consistent with the “look” of body blitz west; exposed brick, lots of warm wood, curved glass walls ... it has everything we love about the look and feel of the present spa including all the great amenities!  I’m so excited for everyone to see it and enjoy it!

12. What is your favourite thing you found for body blitz east?
Everyone who has been to body blitz west has seen the “Girl in the Circle” sculpture at the entrance…I found a matching one that will be displayed prominently in the new spa.  We also have a fabulous water-inspired chandelier going in the entrance foyer that makes a great statement.

13. What has been your biggest challenge designing body blitz east?
Because this is such a huge project, the biggest challenge for me is waiting for this incredible vision we have of the spa to finally come to fruition!
